Your Bible Birthday Verse Victoria Ryan, August 5, 2021August 16, 2021 Sometimes I like to look up my birthday (month and day) in different books of the bible and see if any of them speak to me for prayerful meditation. I used “bible birthday verses” with my own children–I was fortunate enough to have one born on 3:16; how cool is that! “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son ….”– and enjoy using them with my PREP kids (learning the bible this year in sixth grade and Confirmation prep next year.) I don’t have everyone’s birthday who has subscribed, so I’d like to start this short series off with 8-27, the day one of my older brothers was born. He had Down Syndrome (was high functioning) and I really hand to my both my mother and father who gave him what he needed but let him blend into the family like any of our other siblings. Here are some Scriptures in his memory: Everyone was amazed. “What kind of man is this?” they said. “Even the winds and the waves obey him. Mt 8:27 Our brother was a very kind man. He had a good sense of humor and loved everyone. What kind of person would ‘everyone’ say you are based on their observations of your actions? On the way he asked them. “Tell me, who do people say I am?” Mk 8:27 After his funeral, one visitor said my brother was “just one of the neighborhood kids. If we were playing basketball, he played too.” How do your actions tell everyone who you think the mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged are? They did not understand that Jesus was talking to them about the Father. John 8:27 Sometimes we simply didn’t understand what our brother was saying. He developed code for common expressions. For example, “Ew (as in ‘chew’) cream” meant “Could I have some Ice cream?” “Hoss” meant it was time to watch “Bonanza.” And the sound of clock like “t t t ” meant it was time for “Sixty Minutes.” Do you use code with praying, or can you come right out and say “I’m guilty. I’m sorry. I repent, God. Please forgive me.” Stop by next week for our next Bible Birthday Verses. Bible Birthday Verses Bible versesCatholicCatholic blogReflection
